Piano moving in Berlin, handled by our own team
A piano is heavy, delicate and often only just fits through the stairwell. That is why we check dimensions and routes before we confirm a date.

In short
Paradiso Umzüge handles piano moves throughout Berlin with its own team. To give you a quote, we need the instrument's dimensions, the floor it is on and the narrowest point of the stairwell. We do not tune or repair pianos; that is a job for a piano tuner.
What we need to know before the move
Whether a piano gets through a building smoothly rarely depends on the instrument itself; it depends on the stairs, doors and carrying route. We need these details for both addresses.
- Instrument
- Height, width and depth in centimetres, plus make and model if you know them. One photo from the front and one from the side help us assess the job.
- Weight
- A piano is usually the heaviest item in a home. If the weight is given in the manufacturer's or dealer's documents, let us know. If not, we estimate it from the dimensions and model.
- Floor and stairwell
- Which floor is the piano on, and how wide is the staircase at its narrowest point? Winding stairs and tight turning landings, common in the side wings (Seitenflügel) of Berlin apartment buildings, are the critical point.
- Lift
- If there is a lift, we need the inside dimensions of the car, the width of the lift door and the load capacity. The capacity is usually shown on the plate inside the car.
- Doors
- The clear width of the building entrance, the apartment door and the room door, measured between the door frames with the door fully open.
- Route to the truck
- Steps in front of the building, a courtyard or a route through the front building (Vorderhaus) to the rear building (Hinterhaus) make the carrying distance longer. Also tell us where the truck can stop.
How to measure your stairwell
Take a folding rule or tape measure and measure the staircase at its narrowest point, from the wall to the banister.
At every turning landing, measure the length and width of the free space. This is where the piano has to be turned.
Check the headroom above the stairs if a ceiling or beam hangs low.
Photograph the stairwell from bottom to top, one picture on each landing.
Do the same at the new address and note where the piano should go.
How a piano move works with us
- Step 1
Request with dimensions and photos
Send us the details above using the quick quote form or by phone. The more precise the dimensions, the more precisely we can plan movers and time.
- Step 2
On-site survey if needed
If anything is still unclear after the dimensions and photos, for example with a very narrow stairwell, we take a look at the route on site.
- Step 3
Quote before you commit
You get a quote with the binding final price before you agree to anything.
- Step 4
Moving day
Our own team carries the piano out of your home, loads it and takes it to its new location.
- Step 5
Positioning at the destination
The piano goes exactly where you want it. After that, it is time to call a piano tuner.
Paradiso Umzüge has business liability insurance and transport insurance. Please raise any questions about cover for your instrument with us before booking.
What we do not do
- Tuning the piano, before or after the move
- Repairs, restoration or regulating the action
- Appraisals of the instrument
For these, piano builders and piano tuners are the right people to ask. A new room climate affects the instrument: plan a tuning appointment after the move and ask the tuner how long the piano should first settle into its new room.
Is the piano part of a bigger move? You will find everything else on our page about home moving in Berlin.

Questions about piano moving
What do I need to measure before a piano move?
The piano's dimensions (height, width, depth), the width of the staircase at its narrowest point, the free space on the turning landings and the clear width of the doors. If there is a lift, also its inside dimensions and load capacity. Photos of the stairwell help us plan.
Do you tune the piano after the move?
No, we do not tune pianos. A change of location and room climate affects the instrument, so have a piano tuner check it after the move and ask them when the right time is.
Do you come for an on-site survey first?
Send us the dimensions and photos first. If anything is still unclear after that, for example a very narrow stairwell or a long route across a courtyard, we come out for an on-site survey.
Can I combine the piano move with my home move?
Yes. Mention the piano with its dimensions and floor in your home moving request, and we will plan movers and time for it.
How much does piano moving cost?
That mainly depends on the floor, the stairwell, the carrying distance and the route. We prepare a quote from your dimensions and photos and give you the binding final price before you commit.
