What determines the price of your move
- Floor and lift
- A fourth floor without a lift takes more time than the ground floor.
- Carrying distance
- A no-parking zone right outside the door saves a lot of walking.
- Volume
- The number of rooms and the amount of furniture determine the truck size and the number of movers.
- Assembly
- Dismantling and reassembling wardrobes and kitchens takes extra time.
- Distance
- Within Berlin, across Germany or across Europe.
Moving checklist for Berlin
6 to 8 weeks before
- Give notice on your tenancy and agree the handover date
- Book a moving company and fix the date
- Apply for a no-parking zone at the Bezirksamt (borough office); processing takes about 4 weeks according to Service Berlin
2 to 3 weeks before
- Set up mail forwarding (Nachsendeauftrag) with the post office
In the week of the move
- Label boxes by room
- Defrost the fridge, take down lamps
After the move
- Register your new address at the Bürgeramt (citizens' office) within two weeks
- Note the meter readings in your old and new home
Questions about home moving
How many movers do I need for my apartment?
For many smaller apartments, two movers with a truck are enough. For larger apartments, lots of furniture or upper floors without a lift, three movers are faster and therefore often cheaper. Tell us in the quick quote form how many rooms and which floors are involved.
What is included in the package with two movers and a truck?
Two movers and a truck. Extra services such as packing or assembly are agreed with you in the quote, and we tell you the binding final price before you commit.
Do I have to pack myself?
No. You can pack yourself to save time on moving day, or book our packing service as an extra. We can bring packing materials if you wish.
How early should I apply for a no-parking zone (Halteverbot)?
According to Service Berlin, the average processing time is about 4 weeks; the application goes to the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) of the responsible Bezirksamt (borough office). The minimum fee is €21.00, depending on scope and duration.
